Placements
During the year, you will complete two placements in order to achieve Qualified Teacher Status; the majority of time is spent in your main placement (Placement A). Sandwiched in the middle is a shorter placement during the Spring 2 half term. This will provide a contrasting experience for you in order for you to develop your skills and knowledge to support a wider range of pupils. For primary trainees, this will be in a different school and key stage and in secondary, an alternative school will aim to show another perspective for example a school in a different area of deprivation, with a different pupil profile. Kingsbridge will arrange all school placements for you.
Teaching Responsibility
The model also shows that the teaching responsibility gradually increases throughout the training year. The percentages shown are the minimum teaching responsibilities for the time of year. There are personalised and flexible teaching responsibilities to start the training year, dependent on your prior knowledge, experience and route that you are training on. For tuition fee trainees, there is a focus on establishing relationships and observing good practice at the start of the year and gaining confidence through working with individuals, groups and slowly taking responsibility for parts of lessons before taking on whole class responsibility. For apprentices, we encourage the same model but recognise that apprentices may have additional teaching responsibilities.
Training Focus
The Kingsbridge curriculum has been developed to equip you with the skills and knowledge that you need to be successful. The training year starts with the fundamentals of teaching like effective behaviour management and how to structure lessons. This then moves through to more sophisticated and complex approaches like metacognition and personalised learning strategies.
