Changes to qualifications requirements and length of the apprenticeship programme.
With immediate effect, employers have the flexibility to decide whether adult learners (over 19) need to complete a level 2 English and maths qualification to pass their apprenticeship, while the minimum duration of an apprenticeship will be reduced from 12 to eight months.
The change will be introduced from August 2025, subject to the legislative timetable. This will see the postgraduate teaching apprenticeship better align with the academic year and awarding of QTS, and bring the apprenticeship route closer to other postgraduate ITT routes. We will share more information in a future briefing.
